Certification Help

Come enjoy our beautiful community, share your talent and have fun at work by staying on vacation longer through encouraging life-long learning and teaching our future leaders!

Welcome to Certification Assistance for Monroe County

Monroe County Public Schools needs new teachers every year---in all grade levels, in all subjects and in all schools throughout the Florida Keys.

Our 8,800 students are very diverse and eager to learn.  Our community brings rich experience from other cultures and speaks many different languages.  Bring your expertise and experiences to enable our kids to reach new heights.

We encourage individuals who are interested in teaching as a profession to contact us to discuss the certification process.  Prospective teachers are invited to complete the formal online paperless application for employment at:  https://patsr7.monroe.k12.fl.us/

We are looking for teacher applicants: a) who hold Florida certification, b) holding educator certificates from other states, and/or c) college graduates with a strong desire to teach in our district.

To qualify for an educator position in Monroe County, you need eligibility for Florida certification with a Florida Statement of Eligibility.  Please apply to the FL DOE online at www.fldoe.org/edcert and obtain an FL DOE number.  If you wish to call the Florida DOE Bureau of Educator Certification to discuss the certification process, they may be reached at 800-445-6739. Send required documents with FL DOE number indicated, which would include a front AND back copy of a any valid out of state certificate you may have and official transcripts showing date degree(s) conferred to:

Florida Department of Education

Bureau of Educator Certification

Suite 201, Turlington Building

325 W. Gaines Street

Tallahassee, FL 32399-0400

The following documents may assist you in determining how to qualify for a Florida teaching certificate:

The FL DOE will send you a Statement of Eligibility listing any requirements to become professionally certified in Florida for the area(s) you applied, which may require a Florida subject area exam. To register for a Florida subject area exam you may go to the following website www.fl.nesinc.com.  If you have additional questions about the registration process, you may contact the testing agency directly at 866-613-3281.  Test scores are sent automatically to the FL DOE in approximately 30 days from the date you pass exams.

Once you have a FL Statement of Eligibility, please go to our PATS applicant system https://patsr7.monroe.k12.fl.us/ and indicate your answer as “YES” you have applied for FL certification and apply for teaching positions in Monroe County.  You will need to upload copies of your official transcripts showing date degree(s) conferred (unofficial transcripts, diplomas and online printouts are unacceptable), out of state certificate, FL certificate or Statement of Eligibility, Instructional Resume and complete three eReference requests.   To speed this process, consider using personal email addresses and phone numbers for eReferences instead of corporate.

For certification assistance please contact Jerian.Winn@KeysSchools.com or 305-293-1400 ext 53331.
